The Challenge of Keeping Electronic Systems Working !

Testing a module or unit . . .

Testing a module or unit to ascertain its status can be a challenging activity. Often referred to as Go/NoGo, RFI (Ready for Insertion) or Functional testing the test code is written and sequenced to prove the unit works to a pre-determined set of conditions.

When a unit or module fails this testing process, the task turns to diagnosing the cause of the failure so that remedial work can be performed. The diagnostic test code generation, diagnostic algorithms, repeatability, reliability and accuracy of the final diagnosis is a major challenge and often seen as the high risk activity by OEM’s (Original Equipment Manufacturers) of the module.

To produce the Go/NoGo test program for any unit requires an understanding of its function, or a test specification and sequence, such that the test code can be produced and written manually. There is no alternative and this process will take a finite time.

The diagnostic test code then has to be developed. The Go/NoGo tests will prove that the unit or module works as expected and although these can be used as a basis for developing the diagnostics they start from the premise that the circuit works correctly whereas, a diagnostic program must assume the circuit is not working and that a fault needs to be detected. The difference between these two approaches and the implications may not be immediately apparent, except to those actively involved in diagnostic programming, but they are significant.

All of the above means that traditional diagnostic approaches have been highly skill and time intensive often requiring months of development and verification time.

With the rapid expansion of new technologies, test generation and especially the diagnostic test code has demanded more tools, flexibility that can be applied when required to test circuits. Flexibility and capability must be readily available and essentially be easy to use.

Developed in conjunction with major military customers

DiagnoSYS has developed test strategies and products such that the diagnostic process can be achieved rapidly and accurately with negligible risk.

The DTec system further evolves these strategies and closely integrates Go/NoGo test capability together with a powerful and flexible diagnostic arsenal all within a Universal Design Architecture.

Technology, finance and time constraints today mean that a test system must have powerful capability and functionality that is easy-to-use and flexible – DTec not only exceeds these requirements but in addition makes accurate and rapid diagnostics readily available.

Built on Universal Design Architecture means that clusters of the DTec’s integrated features are also available across the product range. This provides compatible test and diagnostic capability throughout a logistics chain – capability when required, where required at the right price.

DiagnoSYS is an established company providing Electronic Test and Diagnostic solutions to customers worldwide, empowering them to keep electronic systems working. Headquartered in the UK and with offices in the USA, France, Germany, Sweden and India, global sales and support is provided to major military, transportation and industrial sector customers.
